AN AWARD-WINNING EFFICIENCY PROGRAM IN FORT COLLINS, COLORADO

Fort Collins – a city of 167,500 located in northern Colorado – is on its way to eliminating 80 percent of its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and eliminating them entirely by 2050. This impressive feat is partly due to a pilot program born from a year-long RMI engagement with the city’s utility to design a new integrated utility services model to get more residential homes implementing energy efficiency and renewable energy. The successful project is now receiving the Energy Innovator Award from the American Public Power Association. Read More.

NEW REPORT SHOWS THAT CHANGING THE POWER MIX DOES NOT ENDANGER ELECTRIC SYSTEM RELIABILITY

A new report by Analysis Group answers questions asked two months ago by Energy Secretary Rick Perry about the reliability and market rules of the U.S. electric power grid. Analysis Group finds that market forces are causing some coal and nuclear power plants to retire, and not state and federal policies supporting renewable energy development. The report finds that the changing electricity resource mix poses no threat to the reliability of the nation’s power system. Read More.

ST. LUCIA UTILITY SIGNS CONTRACT FOR THE ISLAND’S FIRST SOLAR FARM

Today representatives from St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited and solar energy firm GRUPOTEC signed a contract for a 3 megawatt solar farm. When connected to the grid, the solar farm is expected to generate the equivalent electricity used by nearly 3,500 homes while offsetting over 3,800 metric tons of CO2 annually. The solar farm is historic for Saint Lucia as it will be the first utility-scale renewable energy project on the island, where diesel-powered generators currently account for over 99 percent of electricity generation.
