WHEB Annual Impact Report 2017

Interactive Impact Microsite

Press Release

We are delighted to share our latest Impact Report and new Impact Microsite with you – available on the links above.

Our fourth Impact Report has a new and improved format as described in the press release. Most importantly, we have now included social impact outputs for the FP WHEB Sustainability Fund to our Impact Calculator. Launched last year with five environmental metrics, we have added one additional environmental metric and three new social metrics. Today, we are also launching a new interactive Impact Microsite on our website, dedicated to impact reporting.

In this year’s report we aim to show how performance and positive impact are positively related to each other. WHEB’s experience is that investors of all types are increasingly interested in the purpose of their investments. They want to understand the real-world impact of their savings and investments, which is exactly what our Impact Calculator is designed to achieve.

WHEB integrates the financial analysis of positive impact at the core of our investment process. Therefore, we can better assess, measure and report on the extent to which the financial performance of companies and their positive social, environmental and economic outcomes move in lock step with each other.

As our investors already know, the FP WHEB Sustainability Fund is solely invested in companies providing solutions to sustainability challenges. This fourth Impact Report builds on our leadership in measuring and communicating the extent and nature of this positive impact.

In our report, we demonstrate that investing £1 million in the FP WHEB Sustainability Fund in 2017 is associated with the following outcomes:
670 MWh of renewable energy was generated;

1,000 tonnes of CO2e was avoided;

1.8m litres of water use was avoided;

15m litres of waste water was treated;

5m litres of water was cleaned and distributed for reuse;

55 people received healthcare treatment;

90 tonnes of waste material were recycled or recovered;

109 days of tertiary education was provided; and

£118,000 of costs were saved in the healthcare system.

The Impact Calculator can be used to calculate the outcomes associated with any individual amount invested in the Fund.

The UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are increasingly being used by asset managers as a framework to focus their investment strategy. In this new Impact Report, we show how every investment in the FP WHEB Sustainability Fund directly supports the achievement of 7 of the UN’s 17 SDGs.  More detail and examples are available on the interactive pages of WHEB’s new Impact Microsite, along with a separate Methodology document.

We very much hope you enjoy reading the report, using our new Impact Calculator and exploring the new impact pages on our website. We are keen to hear your feedback as well, so please let us know what you think!

Best wishes,
Libby
