How can stock exchanges advance gender equality?

Gender equality is a fundamental human right. Despite this, women lag male peers in compensation and in leadership roles and the gender pay gap won’t be closed for 100 years. The private sector is well-placed to address this.

To coincide with International Women’s Day, the Sustainable Stock Exchanges (SSE) initiative and German development agency GIZ have released How stock exchanges can advance gender equality. The report aligns with the global ‘Ring the bell for gender equality’ events from 6-10 March.

It analyses the state of gender equality globally and has examples of what exchanges across 13 markets are doing to advance SDG 5, achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. Crucially, it found that while progress has been made, more must be done to advance female empowerment.
