Geneva, SmartScan Assessment of the Airport Masterplan

GIB conducted a SmartScan assessment of the Geneva Airport Masterplan 2017-2030. During three workshops, GIB worked with a team from the Geneva Airport (GVA) to assess the project against 75 sustainability and resilience criteria across social, environmental and governance topics. GIB and GVA worked together to understand how the airport could reduce risks and enhance their positive impact on society and the environment whilst boosting resilience against shocks and stresses in the future. Overall, the airport was commended for the proactive initiatives it is implementing, for example, to reduce induced airline emissions, maintain biodiversity, and boost energy efficiency and renewable energy use onsite.

Events

GIB in New Orleans with the Resilience Shift and MELCoP (Resilience Measurement, Evidence & Learning Community of Practice)

GIB co-organised the keynote plenary on „Investing in Businesses“ to bridge the gap between resilience measurement practitioners and the business world at the MELCoP conference.

GIB and The Resilience Shift organized a workshop back to back with the MELCoP on resilient infrastructure, which introduced developers of resilient infrastructure tools to their users and potential users. The workshop also explored where the gaps lie in terms of uptake and explored ways in which to bring together these actors to bridge those gaps. Around 30 participants contributed to this forum in order to enhance resilience in the planning, financing, and implementation of critical infrastructure projects.

Climate Innovation Summit 2018: Mission Finance (Climate-KIC)

GIB co-organised a session at the Climate Innovation Summit 2018 on „Scaling Sustainable Infrastructure“ in Dublin. This session explored how we can use standardization to help mobilize private capital for sustainable infrastructure financing, and addressed why this is critical to ensure a functioning market place. Participants discussed how we can best develop a set of aligned indicators that capture the sustainability of all key standards to simplify the decision process for investors. The session also explored what implications this might have for developing future financing initiatives and mechanisms around large-scale infrastructure projects. The session format enabled provocative, new thoughts to come out.Seminar on Quality Infrastructure Investment in TokyoGIB was invited by the OECD to take part in the Session on Data Collection and Benchmarks for Quality Infrastructure Investment, to make a presentation on a collaboration initiative of sustainable infrastructure standards. The G20 presidency of Japan in 2019 will be a great opportunity to bring the topic of quality infrastructure on the agenda.
