Honouring the next Generation

La Cite Ecologique

Our vision of a regenerative world imagines a future of empowered citizens building bridges of hope and solidarity.  As the equinox passes and many young people return to school around the world, we honor the example offered by the ecovillage movement and communities all over the planet.

Showcase Ecovillages – Sustainability in all Dimensions

GEN is a network of thousands of ecovillages, all over the planet.  We have been hard at work updating entries on our ecovillage map to show our connection to 10,000 ecovillages.  Adding your project with our newly updated submission form is simple and invites seekers  to learn more about your community, so you are invited to create or update your listing here by clicking on on the “Add Ecovillage” button or searching for and updating your current listing.

We are also very happy to share new stories from our Showcase Ecovillages, or communities identified as exemplary in how they live into the 4 dimensions of sustainability.  Here are just a few of these communities in Ireland, Ghana and Canada:

“At La Cité Écologique, we believe it takes an ecovillage to raise eco-conscious children. For more than 34 years, we are consciously cultivating an environment where we can all explore our full potential, day by day.” Read how they are creating a school, aquaponics systems, and how all 100 members work in one of the ecovillage’s businesses or are self-employed.
Ghana Permaculture Institute (GPI) is an institute that considers the future feedback of human interaction with the earth or the environment.  GPI, through its exemplary model of seeing solutions beyond problems, has identified poverty as the core challenge which commits people to initiate certain actions that negatively affect the environment.” Read more here about how they are building networks with thousands of farmers, building microfinance systems and teaching permaculture in local schools.

“The ecological footprint of the average Cloughjordan ecovillager was found to be 2 gha, compared to an average of 4.7 gha for the average Irish person. This gives evidence that the ecovillage is modeling the transition to a low-carbon society through developing its own unique ecosystem of innovation that addresses each of the four dimensions of sustainability” Read more about Cloughjordan’s SpeakEatsy events, organic farm and carbon neutral heating system.
