Lots of good food for thought here.  Thank you Rinaldo!

We hope you have had a nice month of October! At the World Business Academy, this month was full of five Perspectives articles, see below:

There has been so much to talk about in the news over this last month, and we hope you will give our Perspectives articles a read to dive deeper into some current topics. The first two installments are a continuation of September’s series on the USPS. The first article, titled “Cards and Letters,” focuses on what we really need the Post Office to do for us, and how we can help keep it alive (published October 1st). The second article and the final piece on the USPS is titled “Is the Post Office Going Broke?” and reflects on that exact question and several others (published October 8th). The third piece of the month, “Fireproofing California,” is something that us Californians can deeply relate to: the need for  updated building standards that include fire proofed structures and prevent unnecessary and traumatic destruction by wildfires (published October 15th). The next article, “Are We Becoming a Gerontocracy?” addresses something many of us have been thinking: why are our nation’s leaders so much older than the average American? Could a younger generation of leaders relate more closely relate to their constituents? (published October 22nd). Finally, “Fixing Wall Street” dives into a discussion the way debt is favored over dividends in corporate stock values. It is quite apparent that the stock market does not reflect how the economy is actually doing, and this disparity must be addressed and solved (published October 29th). Make sure to check out these articles in the Montecito Journal or on our website, and don’t forget to write into us with thoughts and feedback!

All of these columns were published in the Montecito Journal’s respective editions as well as on our website.

We are grateful to everyone who has sent in thoughtful messages sharing their thoughts, ideas, and positive comments. It is whole-heartedly appreciated and encouraged!

We are pleased to welcome Lorenzo Kristov, PhD to our list of extraordinary Fellows!

Lorenzo is an energy

policy strategist working to transform the architecture of our electricity systems to a distributed, layered structure that’s designed from the bottom up to provide community-level resilience and other local economic benefits, a structure that mimics the way nature designs complex organisms and ecosystems. In his own words:
“It’s a great honor to be included among the roster of inspiring Fellows of the World Business Academy. David Gershon, CEO of Empowerment Institute and Academy Fellow, continues his work with the Cool Block program. David and his team, along with the support and intellectual contributions of our very own Rinaldo S. Brutoco, they are progressing well in moving forward the Carbon Neutral Isla Vista (CNIV) initiative.  They recently completed organizing and submitting a multi-stakeholder grant proposal to the state to make IV car free. Partners in this project include IV Community Service District, SB County, MTD and UCSB.

David and his team were invited to introduce Cool Block and CNIV as part of the 2020 UCSB freshman orientation class. And we’ve been invited by the UC system to apply for a grant to scale the UCSB student-led CNIV model UC wide. Along with Mo Lovegreen, UCSB Sustainability Director and key partner in this initiative, they are working on a strategy to make the IV energy infrastructure carbon neutral.
