Ecocity 13 – Where the City meets the Future

Dixie LaGrande picked me up at the Sacramento Airport, fifteen minutes before midnight. “About the conference,” she said, “what was the one big thing that stands out for you?” A natural question, right to the point, and it took me about one second to say, “Youth representation.”
There she is, immediately below, from her broadcast to the big screen, Xiye Bastida, native American community of the Otomi Toltec from the mountains of Mexico. After a colossally destructive rain and flood her
family moved to New York City only to be swamped again by “Superstorm Sandy.” What’s wrong with this picture? she was saying to herself – and decided she had to deal with climate change.
