Work looks very different today for most people than it did last Labor Day. While everyone’s lives have been disrupted, the COVID-19 pandemic has made clear that the victories of the labor movement — especially safe working conditions and fair compensation — aren’t enjoyed equally. Workers in the food system continue to be some of the most vulnerable to the coronavirus, with summer having brought challenges like fires and extreme heat that only make farmwork more difficult. These dire conditions highlight the importance of continued pushes for better pay and working conditions.
