The International Green Energy Council has been commissioned to assist in the “greening” of the Allianz Championship to be held at the Broken Sound Golf Course and Country Club in Boca Raton, Florida the week of February 6-12, 2012.
“The Allianz Championship is thrilled to be partnering with the International Green Energy Council in its goal to be the benchmark of eco-friendly Professional golf tournaments around the world,” Said Ryan Dillon, Tournament Director, Allianz Championship.
“Our organization takes this opportunity very seriously because the sustainability of the golfing community is paramount to its future” said IGEC Secretary General, Ralph Avallone. “We are committed to assist Allianz in making this PGA Champions Tour event the “greenest” and most sustainable in the history of the sport,” continued Avallone.
This opportunity was brought about through the leadership of Mr. John Crean, COO of Broken Sound, who has made a considerable effort over the last four years to make the community and the course one of the most highly-recognized sustainable courses in the world.. Mr. Crean’s efforts achieved a GEO (Golf Environmental Organization) designation last year, making Broken Sound only the second golf course in North America to achieve this esteemed designation.
“We are committed to go from the broom closets to all four corners of the course and leave no stone unturned in regards to the sustainability of the Allianz Championship.” said Avallone. The IGEC will present green technologies and educational platforms for all who attend the event, including integration of water conservation and green technologies to educational kiosks throughout the venues.
“Our goal is to ensure that the sport continues to flourish while educating its players and spectators about the importance of environmental stewardship” said Avallone.
