Selling Solar by Damian Miller, Earthscan 2010
Review by Hazel Henderson

This richly-sourced overview of all the ways solar energy is operating in the lives of millions of rural and less-affluent people is quite inspiring! Miller, as a dedicated and experienced engineer and practitioner, walks us through all the current applications from solar thermal hot water heaters to photovoltaic panels for lighting, TV, radio and cooking uses. Hundreds of photographs of applications in developing countries add to our wider understanding that in many places in the world the Solar Age has arrived.

As a personal contributor to Neville Williams’ Solar Electric Light fund and his SELCO, I was happy to see that, while my original investment was liquidated, SELCO survives in India. Happily, some of my other early-stage investments are doing well, and we at Ethical Markets Media (USA and Brazil) have updated our Green Transition Scoreboard® for 2011 and show total private investments in green technologies worldwide since 2007 now exceed $2 trillion. The Green Transition is clearly underway worldwide, as Damian Miller documents in this useful book.
