December 2010

Dear Hazel,

As we approach the 2 year anniversary of the New Economy Roundtable, where many of you joined the effort that eventually became the New Economy Network, there is much to celebrate and still more to do! There are now 170+ individuals and 36 organizations who have joined NEN and they span a wide range of issues and sectors in a multifaceted push for a transition to a more just and sustainable economy. Know someone who should become a member? Please direct them to our membership application.

Technology Update
Much of the work of our members is highlighted on our new members only website where you can peruse our map of the field and membership directory; check out the latest provocative thinking from fellow members on our blog, read the latest governance reports from the Executive Committee, and find out more about the individual working groups. Any time you want to find out what’s happening in the Network this website is the place to go. Also, please don’t hesitate to make yourself at home on the new site! Fill out your profile so other members know who you are, comment on someone else’s blog or submit your own, and share documents or ideas in the forum. (If you are having any trouble logging on please contact Cheyenna at [email protected].)

Working Groups Update
NEN has 6 live working groups and another 5 under development. The live groups include 3rd Millennium Economy, Beyond Consumerism, Spring 2011 New Economy Conference Planning, NYC Solidarity Economy Organizing, New Economy Transitions, and Messaging and Framing. You can find out more about these working groups by visiting the members only website. If you are interested in joining an existing working group or forming a new one please contact the NEN Coordinator at [email protected]. Working groups are free to organize themselves as they wish but are required to disclose some information about themselves on our public and members only sites. We are also happy to provide working groups with access to our Google Apps platform and to provide technical support for those who choose to utilize the platform for seamless online collaboration.

Support the New Economy Network
NEN is a non-profit and we depend on contributions to provide you with our communications hub and organizing platform. We intentionally designed the Network to have a very small budget so we do not compete with the important work of our members. To date, we have spent less than $100,000 building the Network. If our work is valuable to you, please consider making a contribution to underwrite our continuing development. Every contribution is important and a vote of confidence in our work. Checks can be made c/o Demos at 220 5th Ave, 5th floor, New York, NY, 10001. Please include a note designating your gift is for the New Economy Network.

Finally, we always welcome members to amplify your calls to action, events, press hits, and other news via our newsletter, website, Facebook page, and Twitter feed. Please send along anything you’d like to share with all or part of NEN’s membership!

Thanks for all that you do.
