AS KLINE GOES AFTER NLRB, MEMBERS OF CONGRESS, ACADEMICS, AND WORKERS STAND UP FOR AGENCY, EMPLOYEES’ RIGHT TO VOTE
Press conference call TOMORROW, Wed. July 6, on need for proposed rule to modernize union elections

Washington, DC — On Wednesday, July 6, at 2 PM EST, American Rights at Work will host a conference call on the need for a proposed rule from the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). The rule is designed to modernize union elections in an outdated system riddled with bureaucratic delays and costly litigation, so that workers have a fair vote in the workplace. The call, featuring Rep. Robert Andrews (D-NJ); Catherine Fisk, Chancellor’s Professor of Law at University of California- Irvine; and Brandii Grace, whose attempts to form a union last year were stymied by her employer, will take place just one day before a congressional hearing on the role of the NLRB from the corporate-leaning Education and Workforce Committee.

Despite the fact that the NLRB is charged with carrying out the National Labor Relations Act and has express authority from Congress and the Supreme Court to make this rule change, the Board has come under constant attack from corporate lobbyists and their supporters in Congress. In the last year alone, the NLRB has faced repeated attempts to de-fund the agency and cripple its ability to function, and was subject to multiple hearings designed to delegitimize the work of the agency.
