Katerva Announces 2011 Grand Prize Winner

The first Katerva Award Grand Prize winner was announced today at a press conference in New York City. Recognizing one single idea from among the vast number of high quality nominees was an incredibly difficult task. It was only after a rigorous 12 month review process which included critical analysis by more than 500 experts, business and thought leaders from around the globe that we were able to select the Grand Prize winner.

It is our pleasure to declare Sanergy as the single most innovative sustainability initiative on the planet. Sanergy is an effort to build a network of low-cost, sustainable sanitation centers across Kenya. Founded by MIT alumni, Sanergy incorporates fuel and fertilizer production from human waste as a way to make the effort financially stable, socially responsible, and environmentally conscious.

All of us at Katerva firmly believe that Sanergy has the capacity to fundamentally change the way in which we all live and interact with the planet.
