International Green Awards™ announces WWF-UK as its exclusive NGO partner

July 2011 – The INTERNATIONAL GREEN AWARDS, a global awards scheme committed to innovation in sustainability, is pleased to be aligned with WWF-UK as our exclusive NGO partner, in support of their efforts around greening business.

Innovative thinking and ideas can transform existing systems and processes, paving the way towards sustainability. Each year, the International Green Awards scour the globe in search for pioneering efforts that challenge current unsustainable strategies and offer game-changing solutions.

Dax Lovegrove, Head of Business and Industry for WWF-UK commented, “It’s important to celebrate innovations that drive us towards a One Planet Future – a future in which the production and consumption of goods and services flourish within the Earth’s ecological limits and support human well-being around the world.”

2011 marks 50 years of WWF’s commitment to conservation and innovation is a key factor in WWF’s approach to greening business, which underpins their alignment with the International Green Awards 2011. As part of their ‘Green Game Changers’ initiative, WWF encourages transformational change and disruptive innovation from the business community and are showcasing some of the best examples at wwf.org.uk/innovation .

WWF is convinced that the business community offers one of the most effective routes to finding sustainable solutions to the world’s pressing environmental and economic challenges. More broadly, WWF works to support a greener globalised economy, smarter regulations, and better informed consumers and investors. We are optimistic that these endeavours will help societies prosper within the ecological limits of the planet as we work towards a future in which people and nature thrive.

As Ahmed Djoghlaf, Executive Secretary, Convention on Biological Diversity summed it up, “In the wake of the adoption of the 2020 Aichi Biodiversity targets which calls for the engagement of all stakeholders including the business community, it is an honour and a privilege to participate in the 2011 Green Awards. I am impressed with the positive impact the Awards has in promoting and rewarding creativity and dedication. Through example, the Awards is shaping future messages of sustainability and therefore creating the leaders of the green businesses of tomorrow.”

Accredited by the Royal Society of Arts’ Environmental Awards Accreditation Scheme, the awards programme is now in its sixth year. The Awards enlighten the world through showcasing the best in class examples of creativity in business, citizen and government initiatives leading to sustainable outcomes globally.
