In his keynote speech at the third International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) Pilot Programme Conference, Jan Peter Balkenende, Former Prime Minister of the Netherlands, spoke about how governments are having difficulties with issues such as short termism, and that companies are now widely taking the lead. To this end, he concluded that Integrated Reporting is necessary for business in the 21st century.

At the IIRC, we are keenly awaiting your comments on the Consultation Draft. This is a genuine consultation. The Framework that will be released in December 2013 will be developed based on your feedback. Your input will help us formulate the best Framework we can.

<IR> and the G8

Business transparency was one of the three focus points at the G8 summit in June. The British Government, the summit’s host, stated that a lack of transparency is creating a barrier to responsible investment. The political call for transparency was also mirrored by those at the forefront of business.

UN Global Compact Endorsement of <IR>

The UN Global Compact recently released, ‘Brief for Business Participants: Integrated Reporting’. The brief addresses questions like, “How Does <IR> Relate to the Big Picture of the Global Compact?”, “What Could <IR> Potentially Mean for Communicating Progress on Global Compact Issues?” and “Why is <IR> Important to the Global Compact?”.
