“Fritjof’s Systemic Response to COVID-19”

“Ethical Markets is happy to post this recent follow-up of our Advisory Board Member, Fritjof Capra, physicist and best-selling author, and my co-author,  following the many questions we had  from our various networks on our essay, “PANDEMICS: LESSONS LOOKING BACK FROM 2050“.   We both explained that the systemic nature of this corona virus pandemic has been global, attacking populations randomly, but it has exposed the deep inequalities in our social structures and policies and is causing much greater illness and loss of life among the poorest and most vulnerable people .

We must focus on  much more robust investments in collective public goods and services, safety nets and universal health care.  These investments in socially-inclusive public goods and protection of  the general health and wellbeing, and preserving and regenerating  all ecosystems is now the essential priority! The UN’s SDG 17 goals can lead the way!

The good news is that we all now see the new systemic “Green New Deals“ arising in over 130 countries, and that old ideologies of “austerity” are giving way to the reality: there is no shortage of money and the truth that money is not wealth, but merely a metric we use to track and keep score of our real productive activities and the wealth of the natural biosphere!

All this is discussed also in our “Transitioning to Science-Based Investing“, 2019-2020 and our forthcoming textbook; MAPPING THE GLOBAL GREEN TRANSITION, 2009-2020”
