1. UK House of Commons slams Rupert Murdoch’s business leadership – core ethical issues relate to allegations that News International failed to cooperate with the parliamentarty committee’s investigations into telephone hacking.

Wal-Mart’s Alleged Mexican Bribe Paying and Cover Up … The New York Times reported in-depth on alleged widespread bribery in Mexico by the company and efforts by its top global corporate leadership to stifle investigations. I got a call from a reporter in Arkansas who asked how companies could get around demands in many countries to pay bribes? Clearly, the reporter was subject to spin! I said that companies need to remain true to their values; they need to see their ethics codes as more than plain wallpaper – they need to live by what they say they believe in and work very hard to ensure they do not pay bribes. Companies that violate their ethics codes risk distruist across all of their diverse stakeholders.
3. World Bank updates its anti-corruption policies. The changes are modest…too modest I believe.
4. FIFA Can Global Soccer Authorities Come to Terms With Internal Integrity Challenges? FIFA Announces Key Reforms – Independent Panel Argues FIFA Does Not Go Far Enough. “We are disappointed. We had expected a more comprehensive introduction of new procedures. Too much is still unclear and key issues, such as investigations into the past allegations of corruption, have not been properly addressed. It has already been nearly 10 months since FIFA promised to clean house,” said Sylvia Schenk, senior advisor for sport at Transparency International.
