American Business Ethics Survey Focuses on Human Resource Officer – A new survey produced jointly by The Society for Human Resource Management and The Ethics Resource Center found that most HR professionals are familiar with their organization’s ethics policies. HR professionals were also the least likely to agree top management displays positive ethical leadership when compared to employee responses.

TI-UK Weighs-In on Woolf Report Recommendations to BAE Systems – After former British Chief Justice Lord Woolf and his committee released a report intended to help repair BAE’s damaged reputation, Transparency International UK has issued its own set of recommendations, saying the Woolf report does not go far enough and leaves out key issues.

Launch of Second Annual Essay Competition Honors Ethics in Finance – The second annual competition for the Robin Cosgrove Prize has been launched in memory of an innovator who understood the importance of ethics in the finance industry. Some of the top companies from this year’s list includes: Alcoa in mining, Honeywell International in defense, Dole Food Co. in agriculture, Nike in apparel, BMW in automotive, Gap in retail and Accor in travel, to name just a few.

U.N. Human Development Report Analyzes Corruption in the Asia Pacific – A United Nations Development Programme panel chose corruption as its theme for this human development report as a follow-up to the recent second session of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption in Bali,Indonesia. The report views corruption as a key barrier to human development. At the halfway point to the deadline of the Millennium Development Goals, curbing corruption will be an important step toward reaching them, the report says.

Report Shows How Corporate Tax Dodging Contributes to Global Poverty – A series of country case studies from Christian Aid show big business contracts are not just deals negotiated between huge multinationals and national governments – the effects of these deals have real consequences on local populations.
