Bloomberg Launches Carbon Clock Visualization Project

(3BL Media/Just Means) – ?Since the Industrial Revolution kicked off just over 200 years ago, we have been pumping ?massive amounts of ?carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, one of the major causes of climate change. Scientists say that it is best to keep the number of parts per million under 450 if we want to avoid the worst of global warming. The concept of ?a carbon ?clock was created in the 1950’s by Charles David Keeling—emissions? ?have ?been steadily increasing ever since. Carbon can be an abstract concept for most of us, and this is where visualization tools can step in to make a difference. By ?helping people? ‘see’ graphically the extent of the problem, perhaps ?they ?will be shaken off their complacency more easily. When I visited? the new? Bloomberg’s Carbon Clock data visualization project by Bloomberg News, it was at 403. 849722 …(the last three digits change too quickly to make a record of). It ?reminds you of the National Debt Clock?, and ?it is equally ?awe-inspiring. Those astronomic numbers are hard to get our heads around.
