“Ethical Markets highly recommends this view from our esteemed Advisory Council member, Yul Anderson, President, African American Future Society.  As we have reported, this pandemics has revealed all the fault lines in the USA and many other countries and the narrow GDP-measured globalization which has left so many people in so many diverse communities behind.  There will be no going back to this unequal old “normal.”   We must go forward and build the better future for all as in the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals!

Future of Black America 2053

February 2020

The year is 2020.   The trends of change in the composition of the US population will be reflected in the variety of languages other than English spoken at home.  US growth is forecast at 22 million for the Asian-American population and 18 million apiece for the African-American and multi-racial segments, while the Caucasian / Non-Hispanic population is expected to decline by 16 million.  By the year 2020, the Census Bureau is actually forecasting that over half of Gen Z kids in America will belong to a minority race or ethnic group.  Almost 15% of US population will identify as African-American.

The US African American buying power will rise to $1.54 trillion by 2022, driven by inspirational gains in population, income, and education.  The economic conditions of Black and Latino households will have an increasingly adverse impact on the economy writ large because the majority of U.S. households will no longer have enough wealth to stake their claim in the American middle class or higher.

As a result of white decline, whites put policies in place to sustain their dominance in US Society.  In cities like Baltimore, that are projected to see negative net job growth, white employees are projected to see positive net job growth by 2030, whereas African American jobs could sharply decline and account for more than 150 percent of the projected job losses in that area.  The potential impact may be true for Cities, like Atlanta, New York City, Boston, Miami, San Francisco and Chicago where large Black population are surrounded by desirable infrastructure, transportation and services, culminating in a defined Supra City.

The racial wealth gap is growing: In 2020, median white American households own 86 times more wealth than African-American households and 68 times more than Latino households.  Whites are expected to become a minority in the USA by 2044.  By 2053, African Americans will see their median household wealth fall to zero, just from being on the wrong end of housing appreciation.

While, Black Wall Street Journey will offer a physical space on the South Side of Chicago to serve as a think tank and community hub to better understand how to create economically viable and vibrant African American neighborhoods in the 21st century.  The result of the Obama Library and outside investment exacerbates gentrification and displacement of once long held Black and Brown Communities as the fight for access to resources and jobs becomes grounds for civil unrest.

The lack of access to quality education and health care resulted in less-educated African American women who report experiencing high levels of racial discrimination may face greater risk of developing chronic diseases.  African American women are at greatest risk for pregnancy-related death and complications. African American adults have the highest risk of a vitamin D deficiency, followed by Hispanic people.
