1. Largest diamond bourse’s construction begins at Surat

Diamond Industry

With a 6.6 million sq. ft. space, Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) is all set to change India’s diamond trading scenario in the coming 3 years. An Ahmedabad-based construction company PSP Projects Pvt. Ltd. has been awarded the project. It is scheduled to be built over 30 months and will be a part of Surat Dream City, a 2,000 acre project. SDB would have 11 iconic towers of 11 floors each and will house more than 4,500 offices of diamond units. Read more…

2. Diamond exports go down globally
DiamondsGlobal diamond exports seem to have declined in lot of countries. Polished diamonds in Belgium saw a 4% YoY dip in exports in September. Rough diamond exports also saw a decline in Israel and Botswana. Demand from Hong Kong and US, biggest markets for both Belgium and Israel was low for the first three quarters of 2017. However, sale in ethical diamonds have increased. Though the global exports are declining, the value for diamonds would continue to grow and demand increase till authenticity is proved. Read more…

3. M. Geller launches its first Lab-grown diamond jewelry line
Lab-grown DiamondsSustainability, Tech-advancement and new-age narrative of Lab-grown diamonds has attracted many jewelers in past one year. With its new collection ‘New Dawn’, M. Geller has stepped into the Lab-grown diamond industry. The collection is themed on bridal jewelry. Adding to the list, a new Lab-grown diamond company – Bare Diamonds was launched by former Chief Operating Officer (CEO) of Smyth jewelers – Mark Motes. Set to debut in fall of 2017 in North America, Bare Diamonds would feature initially IGI-certified high-quality round, ideal and triple excellent cuts. Read more…

4. Atelier Swarovski’s love for Lab-grown diamonds
Atelier SwarovskiSwarovski introduced Lab-grown diamonds for the first time in 2016 under the brand ‘Diama’. With this year’s Academy Awards, it launched another line of Lab-grown diamond at the event’s red carpet event. The 23 pieces that are part of the line were showcased in May, during the Cannes Film Festival and are based on three themes – Mosaic, Art Deco and Concentric. Owing to the innovation rooted in Atelier Swarovski, Nadja Swarovski, owner was driven to adopt Lab-grown diamonds that represents the spirit of exploration. Read more…
