A Plan for Taking Control of Public UtilitiesIn an article published today in In These Times, Next System Project research associate Johanna Bozuwa, Soulardarity executive director Jackson Koeppel and We Own It network director Liz Veazey call for the creation of a Community Ownership of Power Administration. They write that as part of a Green New Deal “a cornerstone must be a program to free communities from the unjust power of investor-owned utilities … in order to transform our economy so it serves everyone.” The model for the agency is one of the great cooperative success stories of the Great Depression: the Rural Electrification Administration.
