Dear Futurist Update reader,
My name is Amy Zalman, and I am the incoming ceo and President of the World Future Society. I am writing to introduce myself and to let you know how glad I am to know that you subscribe to our free monthly newsletter, the Futurist Update.
As a subscriber to the FUTURIST UPDATE, you already know that WFS brings you leading-edge reporting and news about emerging trends in science, technology and society. You also know we provide relevant coverage about how people are solving some of our most challenging future problems.
I hope that you find the Futurist Update provocative and enjoyable.
If you do, and you’d like to be even more involved in exploring and shaping our global future, I’d like to share with you a few ideas about how you can engage with the WFS and our global community of members in over 80 countries.
The Story behind the World Future Society (WFS)
In 1960, Edward Cornish was a young journalist working in Washington DC. He had a wife and a young family and what he described as an idyllic life. But he was also fearful that thermonuclear weapons and the Cold War arms race might one day destroy his hopes for the future. He determined to find others who felt the same way and who wanted to shape their future, not be a victim of it.
WFS was born from that vision, and today we are the largest membership organization in the world dedicated to igniting exchanges of ideas about the future, in areas that include business, science & technology, education and the workplace, the environment, our cities and nations, and our shared global society. WFS has members on every continent and in every walk of professional life.
As WFS approaches its 50th birthday in 2016, we have embarked on a journey of revitalization. For almost 50 years, WFS has been the world’s premiere organization for catalyzing discussion about the future and cultivating solutions to our greatest challenges. We are currently laying ground to fulfill that mission for the next 50 years.
Last week, at our annual conference, I had the opportunity to lay out our renewed vision. You can watch it here.
If you like what you hear, and you would like to play a role in a vital global community dedicated to exploring and ultimately shaping the future, I hope you’ll let me know.
I’d like to hear your ideas about how we can support you in your quest to shape your own personal, professional and community future, and how we can do that together. You can reach me at [email protected].
Thank you again for being a Futurist Update reader.
