Schumacher College August Short Courses

We want to inspire you to change the way you do – or consider – business

In this exciting new programme we will show you how it is possible to run an enterprise with regard for people, planet and profit. You will examine a number of ethical models used by both small, local ventures as well as international corporate giants.

This programme introduces Business as a Force for Good. It combines learning about a number of international initiatives for transforming business with visits to or from ethical companies which are models of business responsibility – ranging from local firm Carpenter Oak, to national business Riverford Organics and international corporate giants such as Unilever. It also includes introductions to local enterprises on or near the magical Dartington Estate in Devon, an innovative centre and learning experiment in responsible business and land management.

This course demonstrates how it is possible to do business with heart, caring for surrounding communities and the natural balance of the planet – as well as bringing in profit for their owners. During the week you will explore models of business responsibility such as Kate Raworth’s Doughnut Economics, B Corp Certification, measuring a company’s entire social and environmental performance and impact, Federic Laloux’s Re-inventing Organisations and Otto Sharma’s Transforming Capitalism.
