Green For All

Right-wing media is trying to portray Representative-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) as a dimwit radical. In fact, her proposal to create a Green New Deal is about as smart and practical as it gets.

Van and I wrote an Op-Ed for CNN.com with our thoughts on the matter. Check it out and help us spread the message:

The cost of living for American families is increasing at the fastest rate it has in 10 years; but while cost of living is going up, quality of life is going down. To top it off, a recent report shows we have less than 12 years to address global climate change or face catastrophic consequences.

There’s one thing Green For All has known and advocated for since the beginning: address poverty and pollution at the same time. A Green New Deal does that. It could put millions of Americans to work to build a more sustainable future that helps people and the planet.

Everything that’s good for the planet is a job, a contract, a business opportunity. Solar panels don’t put themselves up, wind turbines and smart batteries don’t manufacture themselves, new forests don’t plant themselves.

American families who are struggling most have the most to gain from a Green New Deal that’s done right.

On average, low-income households pay more than three times the amount that higher-income households pay for utilities, and 50 percent more than the average household for transportation. Low-income communities and communities of color also bear the brunt of pollution-related health impacts, which means higher medical costs and shortened lifespans.

If we invested in modernizing our grid to power America with renewable energy, and weatherize homes and buildings, more Americans could afford to keep their homes warm and their lights on. If we invested in electrifying cars, trucks, and buses, replacing gas stations with charging stations across the country, we could bring down the cost of getting to work and doing business. And at the scale where cities and school districts are saving money on energy and transportation, those dollars could be invested in improving education, healthcare, and other services.

For the first time in nearly a decade, climate action is back in the spotlight in a major way, with thousands of young people around the country demanding action now. They need you. We need you.

Green New Deal

Green For All was proud to stand in solidarity with our partners at the Sunrise Movement and Hip Hop Caucus this week, to call on Representative Nancy Pelosi to support a Green New Deal. The first step is for Pelosi to establish a committee tasked with developing a comprehensive “Green New Deal” policy package.

We need all hands on deck to keep up the pressure and momentum before members of Congress break for the holidays. Can you help us out and spread the message on social media?

Thanks for all you do.

In solidarity,

Michelle Romero
