The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), jointly with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) will organize a High-level International Forum on Ecosystem Management and Green Economy, on 18 November 2011 in Beijing. The Forum is also supported by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Ministry of Environment Protection (MEP) and National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).

This Forum is held to contribute to the success of United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development 2012 (Rio+20) by promoting the role of ecosystem management in the development of a green economy in China and other developing countries. For this, the Forum will come out with a communiqué which recognizes this central role and recommend actions to be taken in Rio+20. The results of the forum will be communicated with all participants and wider stakeholder groups through mainstream and specialized media.

The event will also mark the launch of the International Ecosystem Management Partnership (IEMP), a joint initiative of UNEP and CAS. IEMP will be a China based international programme promoting science and policy on ecosystem management of all developing countries. This is UNEP’s effort in achieving the goal ‘in the South and for the South’, established with the support of the Chinese Government.
