“Ethical Markets welcomes this new report from our friends at Tomorrow’s Company!

~Hazel Henderson, Editor “

Welcome to our first newsletter of 2018. Tomorrow’s Company has begun the year with a flurry of activity, both delivering our existing research and reports, as well as scoping a major programme of work for 2018 and beyond, which represents an exciting step change in our work and activities. We’re looking forward to sharing details on those plans as they take shape.

More immediately, we were delighted by responses to our most recent consultation paper, ‘Better Stewardship – an agenda for concerted action’, launched at HSBC Global Asset Management in January. We have also seen some impressive contributions to our current work on investment decisions and hurdle rates, which is due for completion in a few weeks’ time, in collaboration with our Partners at RWC. We are also hugely excited by a piece of research we have been doing in partnership with Danone, which will be published imminently.

On a personal note, I was honoured to be appointed to lead a new Government Group charged with developing best practice corporate governance principles for large private businesses, which is obviously so close to the purpose and activities of Tomorrow’s Company.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy our most recent update, and if you are interested in finding out about Tomorrow’s Company, or getting involved in our work and activities, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the team on the contact details provided below.

With best wishes,

James Wates CBE

New stewardship consultation paper published

Improved stewardship key for wealth creation

“Better Stewardship – an agenda for concerted action” is a new consultation paper launched by Tomorrow’s Company in January, which confronts the troubling disconnect between our system of wealth creation, and the society which it serves. The paper, which can be downloaded here, highlights the need for improved stewardship across the investment chain to benefit UK savers, listed companies and the wider economy.

The launch event, kindly hosted by HSBC Global Asset Management and featuring a distinguished panel including Anita Skipper of Aviva Investors, Will Hutton of the Big Innovation Centre Innovation, and Catherine Howarth of ShareAction, saw representatives from leading institutional investment houses, business, as well as government and regulators debate how to best introduce better stewardship throughout the investment chain.

An interview with Anita Skipper, conducted immediately after the event, can be viewed here. Investment and Pensions Europe (IPE) also provided an assessment of the report which can be read here.
