The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. (CBCF) is excited to announce the honorees for this year’s 9th Annual Avoice Heritage Celebration, scheduled to take place on Tuesday, February 13, at the Naval Heritage Center.
The celebration, which is the CBCF’s official Black History Month program, recognizes the contributions of African American legislators and acknowledges efforts made to preserve African American legislative history.
Among the 2018 honorees are:
  • General Colin L. Powell, USA (Retired)
    • General Colin L. Powell will receive the Distinguished Pioneer in the U.S. Military and National Security Award for his profile and accomplishments as a historic trailblazer for Black Veterans.
  • Ginger Miller, Petty Officer Third Class
    • Ginger Miller will receive the Distinguished Veterans’ Rights Activist Award for her efforts to expose the public and advocate for veterans in need. 
  • Mrs. Millie Dunn Veasey, Staff Sargeant (Retired)
    • Mrs. Millie Dunn Veasey will receive the Distinguished Veteran: A Living Hero Award for her service as a Staff Sargent and Civil Rights Pioneer.
