Sustainability Breakfast May 12 and 19, 2011

The Relevance of Infrastructure for Sustainable Development

Inrate is pleased to invite you to the next Sustainability Breakfast. The event will take place on May 12 in Zurich and on May 19 in Geneva and will take up the topic “Infrastructure and Sustainable Development”.

Infrastructure is the backbone of any economic and social development and sets the course for or against sustainable development: Depending on decisions taken in the various fields of infrastructure, positive or negative impacts regarding sustainable development can be generated. The most recent debates on how to guarantee a (sustainable) energy provision does illustrate this interrelation.

Dagmar Vogel and Guy Bonvin, Co-Heads Infrastructure Financing, Division for Economic Development Cooperation within the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), will highlight the current challenges and trends in the set-up of sustainable infrastructure in developing and transition countries from a macro perspective. They will present SECO?s approach to support the development of sustainable infrastructure in these countries and will give an insight into successful examples of financing infrastructure projects.

Anna Vettori, Senior Analyst, and Tobias Jung, Head of Research, will elaborate on how Inrate gets from a macro perspective to the sustainability assessment of individual companies. They will give examples of outstanding companies in sustainable infrastructure and will discuss how investors can use these analyses for their investment decisions.

Further development and maintenance of global sustainable infrastructure is crucial and will gobble enormous sums of capital. This offers numerous investment opportunities for investors. Dr. Ilona Monz, Thematic Portfolio Management Clean Technology, Vontobel Asset Management, will speak on the investment case of sustainable infrastructure and will highlight the investors? approach on transmission networks in particular.
