THE IMPORTANCE OF DISTRIBUTION-SCALE SOLAR FOR GRID RESILIENCE

When Hurricanes Harvey and Irma blew through the southern United States and the Caribbean, they left millions without power. As cities, utilities, and islands rebuild, there’s an option to look toward solutions that provide grid resilience, such as distributed energy—especially solar and battery storage sited on distribution grids. In fact, a growing body of evidence suggests that states and countries that replace old, costly fossil-fired generators with renewables, efficiency, demand response, and other distributed energy resources have found greater reliability and resilience at lower costs. RMI’S BOULDER OFFICE NOW NET ZERO

RMI’s Boulder-based employees recently moved into a new net-zero energy development called Boulder Commons. The 100,000 square-foot space—of which RMI occupies 14,000 square feet—utilizes solar photovoltaics, daylighting, and energy efficient design. But even more exciting is that it’s the first net-zero lease for any multitenant development of this size. The new address for the Boulder office is 2490 Junction Place, Suite 200, Boulder, CO 80301. RUN ON LESS PROVES AVAILABLE TECHNOLOGIES COULD UNLOCK $24 BILLION

Run on Less, a first of its kind cross-country road show of class 8 trucks, has proven that they can achieve 10 mpg using efficiency technologies that are available on the market today. The results were announced at the North American Commercial Vehicle Show in Atlanta, Georgia, on Sunday. If the 1.7 million trucks on North American highways today achieved the same level of efficiency as the trucks in the Run, they would save 9.7 billion gallons of diesel fuel, $24.3 billion, and 98 million tons of CO2 each year. The results exceeded the original 9 mpg goal set by hosts Carbon War Room and the North American Council for Freight Efficiency. Shell and PepsiCo were the title sponsors. Read More.
