Business Development Manager
This position will be responsible for expanding Green Mountain Energy Company’s BeGreen Carbon Offset product distribution nationally. As our business grows, this position will focus on the development of complementary, indirect channels that will accelerate our growth and consolidate leadership in the national carbon offset markets.
The position will be responsible for prioritizing opportunities, performing opportunity analysis on promising distribution and marketing partnerships, selling the Be Green program to national retailers, Universities, associations, groups, churches, schools, HOA’s, and other partners, negotiating contracts, crafting value propositions for possible partners, securing actual agreements, and launching execution efforts against contracts.
Duties:
- Seek out new distribution channels for sales of carbon offset products.
- Assist in development of new carbon offset products to meet customer requirements
- Leverage existing web platform and online sales tools
- Understand financial viability of each deal.
- Work with internal constituencies and within the business evaluation process and execute group signups.
- Pursue new partnerships via networking & sales calls.
- Manage and develop new partner programs and networks with clear market value.
- Negotiate agreements that are mutually beneficial and operationally straightforward to implement.
- Delivering the maximum number of sales in the shortest amount of time at an acceptable acquisition cost are the key components to any potential deal.
- Act as account manager for newly executed contracts/relationships, including executing sign ups.
- Act as lead when executing against a new contract. Rally internal support for the efforts, put in place any operational necessities, and track success.
- Cultivate and execute strategic partnerships and develop and manage the ongoing relationship.
- Perform discovery before and during sales calls in an effort to identify value proposition to targeted companies.
- Develop and maintain executive-level contacts of major prospect companies.
- Develop, prioritize, maintain and report on sales pipeline.
- Create and maintain sales forecasts
- Achieve sales activity goals – number of prospecting calls made, accounts qualified, sales calls scheduled, number of proposals made and accepted, meet expected times to be spent on each activity
- Document and report on sales activities
- Quota based sales position that will carry monthly sales objectives and gross margin targets.
- Minimum 30% travel required.
Experiences, skills, and education needed: (computer skills, years of experience, licenses, etc.)
- BA or BS degree in Business, Environmental Sciences, Marketing, Communications, or Economics.
- Self starter, ability to work independently within a market.
- 5-7 years relevant experience. Sales experience in the telecommunications, wireless/cellular, cable/satellite TV or computer industries desirable.
- High energy, able to develop relationships at a grass roots level that will stimulate group buying.
- Demonstrated success in building partnerships from the ground up.
- Demonstrated success in managing relationships with external parties.
- Knowledge of renewable energy or emissions markets a plus.
- Strong written communication and verbal skills required. Experience in formal presentations to internal and external senior management preferred.
- Proven track record of fearless cold calling with the immediate purpose of creating, developing and managing new partnership programs.
- Possesses an entrepreneurial spirit and a sense of urgency to achieve goals and exceed expectations
- Strong closing skills required.
- Strong follow-up skills required.
