LIIF Seeking Federal Policy Intern in DC office

LIIF is now accepting resumes for an academic year 2010-11 federal policy intern in our Washington, DC office. The successful candidate will have strong research and writing skills and a great energy and a desire to learn about community development finance and advocacy efforts to strengthen the community capital industry. A stipend is available for this position, commensurate with level of academic achievement and experience. An ideal candidate would be a graduate student looking to augment his or her studies with part time work in this role.

THE ORGANIZATION:
The Low Income Investment Fund (LIIF) is a nonprofit community development financial institution, with headquarters in San Francisco and offices in Los Angeles, New York, and Washington DC. LIIF builds healthy communities by bridging the gap between private capital markets and low-income neighborhoods. LIIF is a steward for capital invested in affordable housing, child care, job training programs, education, and other community initiatives

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Research and draft papers on community development and poverty related issues with an emphasis on transit-oriented development issues
• Track new legislation, attend and summarize Congressional hearings and other policy-related events, participate in visits to Congressional offices, and develop materials for use in LIIF’s advocacy efforts.
• Assist in proofreading, formatting and editing of internal and external policy and advocacy materials as needed
• Assist with other Federal Policy and Government Affairs activities as required

SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Accurate and detail oriented
• Strong research and writing skills
• Strong computer skills with Windows-based programs
• Ability to succeed in a fast paced environment

EDUCATIONAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Applicant should be a graduate student or entering his/her senior year in college pursuing a degree in public policy, economics, law, or related field.
