#MeToo Goes Global

All over the world, women still face unequal treatment by most measures — if the GOP rush to confirm Brett Kavanaugh amid multiple sexual assault allegations allegations weren’t enough of a reminder.

But in the U.S. and beyond, feminist movements are shaking up political establishments the world over. The #MeToo movement has officially gone global, writes John Feffer.

Also this week, Bob Lord argues that wealth concentration in the U.S. is worse today than it’s ever been. Don’t believe him? Consider that the three wealthiest people in America are worth a combined $350 billion.

But that’s still less than half of what the U.S. spends on its military in a single year. That money would be better spent on vital public programs, contends Lindsay Koshgarian for Jacobin. These programs are critical, especially considering how recent tax reforms are compounding already stark disparities in wealth, adds Koshgarian for Truthout.

Also in Truthout, Khury Petersen-Smith urges the global left to band together as democratic rights are under attack from authoritarian leaders around the globe.

And finally, Phyllis Bennis joined The Real News to push back on president Trump’s apparent “dissociation from reality” during his UN General Assembly speech earlier this week.
