THIS WEEK—JAMPA:

Born in a small village in the Tibetan plateau, Jampa is a poet and rising community leader. The only person from her village to attend a university, she has improved the lives of hundreds through small solar and literacy development projects. Jampa is committed to giving voice to the invisible women of Tibet and empowering young girls to pursue their dreams.

IN HER OWN WORDS:

Her Life Vision

“I see myself as a trailblazer of positive changes in my community. I want to be an effective change maker and exemplary social worker…I want to establish an organization that provides a vibrant and diverse residential learning community where girls are encouraged to take part and fulfill their potentials.”

-From Jampa’s post “I enumerate my visions.”  Read more about her life and vision »

Her Work

“I empower girls and prove that education makes a difference by doing small-scale development projects. So far, I have implemented a Solar Panel Project (30 solar panels to 30 households); a Flash Lighter Project which benefited 54 families; a Second-hand Clothes Project which benefited 160 people and a Book Project that benefited 342 students and 18 teachers…The purpose of these projects is to have parents send more girls to school because they could see girls also can do so much.”

-From Jampa’s post “Take a glance at my life.”  Read more about her work »

Her Digital Empowerment Journey

“In most Asian Countries, women are considered inferior to men and they are socially undermined in many ways…They have always been the kind of women that hide their faces, they have been so afraid to tell the world what they have to say…Web 2.0 reminds us that it is time to let it show, it is time to let the world know what we have been bearing so long.”

-From Jampa’s post “Another door opens to us.” Read more about her digital empowerment journey »
