“Ethical Markets stands with our partner ASBC in calling for an immediate end to this cruel policy and re-unification of separated children.

The “Zero tolerance“ policy was an ad hoc, ill-considered mistake!

All of us in the USA are immigrants or descended  from immigrants, except for our Native American nations!

~Hazel Henderson, Editor“

As the leading policy and advocacy organization for the sustainable business community, ASBC strongly opposes the policy of separating children from their families that has recently been implemented at the U.S. border. In addition, we call on the administration and congress to be transparent about where children are being housed, what mechanisms will be used to reunite them with their families, and when will those reunifications happen.

Our federal government’s failure to address fears among the American people about immigration have created a perception crisis – not in reality. Worse, the administration’s actions have directly manufactured one real crisis after another for immigrants and asylum seekers. Right now, lives are still being damaged by irresponsible and immoral government action.

Strong borders represent an important goal, but not one to be achieved at all costs. We must be humane and responsible in how we pursue that goal.

The administration’s behavior is like that of a business, pursuing profits at all costs, and ignoring moral and ethical standards of behavior. In the U.S., we do and should not allow businesses to be that irresponsible. Employers must pay a minimum wage and should do better. Companies should not pollute. And companies should pay their fair share of taxes to pay for the services and resources they use. These are responsible standards that responsible businesses follow while also pursuing profit.

As responsible businesses and investors, we are remiss if we don’t stand up for dignity and respect for all people. We cannot allow our government to abuse its role of protecting borders with deliberately harmful and damaging policies like its policy of separating children from families at the border.

Join ASBC to oppose the government’s policy of separating children from families at the border.
