As conference Season Sets in, Solar Technologies Show Ever-Growing Strength in the Marketplace
It is September, and the renewable energy conference season is in full swing, with ISES playing many important roles. I was pleased to be able to address the participants at the closing session of our own successful EuroSun 2018 Conference in Rapperswil, Switzerland on 13 September. EuroSun conferences are held every second year in a European location and provide an ideal venue for researchers, both from within Europe and internationally, to share their work and learn how their work supports renewable energy programs around the world. I want to especially thank Wolfgang Streicher and Andreas Häberle for the excellent organization of this conference, hosted by the SPF Institut für Solartechnik at the HSR Hochschule für Technik. Jennifer McIntosh and Arabella Liehr of ISES Headquarters also deserve a very special thank you for their hard work in making EuroSun 2018 so successful.
Then this past week I was at the Anaheim Convention Center outside of Los Angeles, California, site of the annual Solar Power International (SPI) Conference and Exhibition. As with many solar exhibitors, SPI has recently joined forces with a key energy storage association, Energy Storage International, to highlight the major role that electrical storage will be playing in the transformation of our electricity system. International Solar Community Gathers at ISES EuroSun 2018
Every two years the global solar research and industry community meets at the ISES EuroSun conferences. This year the EuroSun took place on the campus of the University of Applied Sciences – HSR – in Rapperswil, Switzerland. It brought together 350 participants from throughout Europe as well as from the Americas, Asia, Africa and Australia. The three day program of 130 oral presentations, 160 poster presentations, a product exhibition, various workshops and guided tours through the solar laboratories at SPF as well as exciting keynotes dominated the events on campus.
A special highlight of this years conference was the introduction of a video recordings in which poster authors could present their work in a short video – all videos can be found on the ISES YouTube Channel.
During the closing ceremony, it was announced that the next EuroSun 2020 to take place in Thessaloniki, Greece in September of 2020.
Become a webinar sponsor!
The International Solar Energy Society (ISES) invites your organization to be a sponsor of our webinars. Focusing on solar energy related topics of high relevance in science, technology development, market and industrial implementation, social issues, training and education, our webinars offer something for everyone. ISES initiated these online seminars in 2012 and since then they are growing in popularity with ever increasing number of participants.
We cooperate regularly for example with the IEA Solar Heating and Cooling Programme (IEA SHC), REN-21, Solar Cookers International, Fraunhofer ISE and many others through sponsoring and/or to bring our audience a broad range of topics presented by expert panelist speakers and moderators.
The monthly ISES webinars are promoted by ISES and our partners through regular e-mailings, social media and media contacts. Several hundred people register and attend. The webinars offer the possibility for your organization to participate as a webinar panelist and to present your message to a highly professional audience of solar researchers, industry representatives, students and many more.
ISES Co-Hosted Event at Global Climate Action Summit on 100% RE
On September 11, ISES Secretary, Paulette Middleton spoke at the event titled “Superheroes for Sustainable and 100% Renewable Energy: Global Strategies for Decision-Makers”. This event, organized by ISES and several partnering groups, complemented California Governor Jerry Brown’s Global Climate Action Summit, aimed at creating progress towards a 100% renewable energy future that will enable achievement of global climate goals under the Paris Agreement. Throughout the day long event, global leaders (superheroes) stressed the importance of innovation in how we approach societal as well as technical challenges, work together more effectively to transform complex integrated systems, and strengthen commitments at the individual and organizational levels.
