ISES Board to Meet for Annual Strategic Discussions

The 19 members of the ISES Board of Directors will soon be meeting in Freiburg, Germany to review plans for the Society’s 2019 activities and to hold strategic discussions on key programs the Society will undertake beyond 2019. As with previous years, Fraunhofer ISE is graciously hosting the meetings, which are being held on 14-16 March.

ISES’ work revolves around three broad activity areas: Programs, Outreach, and Operations. Although I am involved in all three of these areas, much of the work I do on behalf of ISES falls in the programmatic and outreach areas. Our Programs include our publications such as our Solar Energy Journal and the recent “Dispelling the Myths” document that can be found on our web site, our engagement with our numerous partners, our Conferences and Congresses, and our webinars. This year we will also be holding our second Renewable Transformation Challenge (RTC), a major grant that we, in collaboration with Elsevier award every two years to a company, institution or individual that are undertaking concrete steps to demonstrate how our core vision of 100% renewable energy can be achieved. Elsevier and the International Solar Energy Society (ISES) are proud to announce 2019 Renewable Transformation Challenge is open for applications.

The challenge will honor outstanding work that contributes to a world powered by renewable energy and with accessible energy for all. The first place winner will be awarded €20,000.

The Renewable Transformation Challenge is awarded every two years to recognize accomplishments by organizations such as private enterprises, NGO’s, and research institutions for undertaking projects and programs that help move the world toward an energy system supplied entirely by renewable energy sources, or for conducting the critical analyses that provide meaningful roadmaps for the transformation.

The award is one step towards furthering ISES’ vision of a world powered by 100% renewable energy, used efficiently and wisely, and accessible for all.

Who can apply?

Applications for this Challenge are invited from organizations who can demonstrate that they have established successful projects, innovative technologies, financing schemes, policy initiatives, or renewable energy programs, or from institutions that have undertaken research and analyses and identified solutions that demonstrate how this goal is being met.

The Challenge is open and the deadline for submitting applications is 30 April 2019.

The Solar World Congress is ISES’ international flagship event bringing together a unique audience of academics and researchers to renewable energy industry, government and NGO leaders, entrepreneurs, practitioners, and students from around the world.

The SWC 2019 is being held together with the International Solar Heating and Cooling Conference 2019 (SHC 2019), also featuring the 9th International Conference on Solar Air Conditioning (SAC 2019) and the 13th International Symposium on Renewable Energy Education (ISREE 2019). We invite you to submit your abstracts and join us in Chile – one of the fastest growing and strongest markets for solar energy technologies.

The Congress covers a broad ranage of themes and topics from solar and renewable electricity, energy storage, solar heating and cooling applications and technologies, markets and policies to sector coupling, off-grid energy access, community power and much more.

You can find the list of all themes here!
