Environment ministers meeting in Brussels on Friday are likely to urge the EU’s executive to look at practical ways to drive green investment, but to stop short of calling for intervention to prop up carbon permits that have lost much of their value.

Speaking in Mexico City at an International Seminar on “The Future of Energy,” Maria van der Hoeven, Executive Director, IEA, noted that improving energy efficiency is the quickest and cheapest way to address energy security, as well as environmental and economic challenges.
