GRI contributes to interactive dialogue at the UN General Assembly
Teresa Fogelberg, Deputy Chief Executive GRI, will speak at the UN General Assembly in New York today.

Ms Fogelberg will participate as a panelist in an interactive dialogue entitled ‘Elements for a Monitoring and Accountability Framework for the Post-2015 Development Agenda’.

UN Member States have been invited to participate in the dialogue at the highest possible level, along with representatives from UN agencies, and other relevant stakeholders from the private sector, civil society organizations and academic institutions. Ban Ki-Moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations and John Ashe, UN President, are scheduled to attend the opening session.

The main objectives of the dialogue are to initiate discussions among UN Member States on possible approaches to monitoring, review and accountability, and to articulate ways forward in developing a framework for monitoring the implementation of a post-2015 development agenda. Questions guided by these objectives will form the basis for presentations by a panel of experts, which will include Ms Fogelberg.

As part of her presentation, Ms Fogelberg will discuss the worldwide developments in sustainability reporting that have been driven by business, their stakeholders, and government, and report on the additional guidance that GRI, in cooperation with its alliance partners the UN Global Compact, and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, will develop for businesses to measure their impacts in relation to the forthcoming SDGs: “A successful post-2015 Development Agenda will require a robust, inclusive and transparent monitoring and accountability framework,” she says.  “Accountability extends beyond government, and applies to all stakeholders being held accountable for their role in implementing a universal development agenda.”

The interactive dialogue can be followed on the UN’s live-stream website http://webtv.un.org/live/
