Dear friend,
The global financial system is undergoing immense changes through business innovation underpinned by financial technologies, or ‘fintech’, increasingly in combination with a broader technological ecology including big data, artificial intelligence and the Internet of things. Fintech offers the prospect of a more efficient, accessible and less vulnerable financial system, but brings with it potential risks. The opportunity and need is to ensure that its transformative potential is harnessed to align the financial system with sustainable development.

UN Environment and ANT Financial Services will launch the Green Digital Finance Alliance in Davos next week to address the potential for fintech-powered business innovations to reshape the financial system in ways that better align it with the needs of environmental sustainability. At its core, the Alliance’s members will comprise innovative financial institutions committed to using digital technology to advance green finance in lending, investment and insurance.
