The launch of GEOLAC in 2012 reflected the emergence of geothermal as a long-term source of baseload power for Latin America and the Caribbean. 100 participants from 21 countries, including senior officials from eight regional governments, participated in the inaugural event. Two years on, and the prospects for the development of LAC geothermal are stronger than ever. The prevailing economic climate is markedly more confident, multilaterals are moving aggressively to mobilize resources, and well-capitalized developers are targeting proven resources region-wide.
