Florida AFL-CIO Endorses Nancy Soderberg for Congress

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 15, 2018

Daytona Beach – Today, Nancy Soderberg, former U.S. Ambassador and FL-06 Democratic nominee, announced the endorsement of the Florida AFL-CIO. This endorsement highlights Soderberg’s commitment to standing up for the priorities of the working class and unions.

“Volusia-Flagler’s workers need a bold leader who will be their voice in Congress and put the real issues that affect them every day first,” Joshua LeClair, Volusia/Flagler AFL-CIO President, said. “Nancy Soderberg will be that voice, who will fight for a fair economy, protect Social Security and Medicare, and make health care more affordable for working people. Union workers in our community stand with Nancy, and we are ready to take that message to our union halls and the ballot box this November.”

“The Florida AFL-CIO is proud to endorse Nancy Soderberg for the US Congress on behalf of the more than one million workers, retirees, and family members we are fortunate to represent,” Mike Williams, President of the Florida AFL-CIO, said. “Florida’s Labor family knows that we need a new delegation in Washington, one that puts the needs of workers ahead of the corporate special interests and political insiders. Nancy, with her bold vision and determination, is going to be a part of that delegation, and our members are looking forward to being a part of the team that makes that happen.”

“To have the endorsement of the Florida AFL-CIO is an incredible honor,” Soderberg said. “As a U.S. Ambassador, I fought for human rights around the world. I am deeply concerned by the barrage of threats to workers’ rights that are becoming commonplace in this country. I’m running for Congress to be a champion for Florida workers from day one.”

This endorsement builds on the momentum behind Soderberg’s campaign following her primary victory. She has garnered support from local leaders, national figures, grassroots groups, and local and national organizations, including five members of the Florida Congressional delegation, Daytona Beach Mayor Derrick Henry, Rep. Patrick Henry, Rep. Joyce Cusack, Eustis Mayor Rob Morin, St Johns County Environmental Caucus, Florida Young Democrats, Indivisible United Florida 6th District, Volusia United Educators, Florida LGBTA Democratic Caucus, and AFSCME Florida.

Soderberg’s momentum also includes being named to the DCCC’s Red to Blue List, and earning endorsements from Vice President Joe Biden, Gold Star Father Khizr Khan, Emily’s List, Orlando Sentinel, End Citizens United, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, NewDem’s PAC, Foreign Policy for America, NARAL, Serve America, Equality PAC, among others.
