Clean Energy Can Fuel Economic Revival, Green Groups Tell Obama

WASHINGTON, DC, November 28, 2008 (ENS) – President-elect Barack Obama can revive the U.S. economy – and combat climate change – by investing in clean energy technologies and strengthening environmental protections, the leaders of major U.S. environmental groups advise. The wish list of policies was delivered to Obama’s transition team by a coalition of 29 organizations, who also urged Obama to swiftly reverse “eight years of environmental neglect” under the Bush administration.

Climate Change Could Destroy Vast Forests, Report Warns
BOGOR, Indonesia, November 28, 2008 (ENS) – Without immediate concerted action by governments, climate change could have a devastating effect on the world’s forests and the nearly one billion people who depend on them for their livelihoods, warned forest scientists in a report to be released next week at the UN climate conference in Poland.

Global Carbon Dioxide Hit Record Levels in 2007
GENEVA, Switzerland, November 26, 2008 (ENS) – Climate-heating greenhouse gases continue to increase in the atmosphere, and last year, global concentrations of carbon dioxide again reached the highest levels ever recorded, according to an annual report released Tuesday by the World Meteorological Organization based on observations from more than 65 countries.
