A Note From the CEO:

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve had people from all walks of life, including the investment and banking communities, ask me what effect the results of the recent presidential election might have on Envision Solar’s business. Some have suggested that Mr. Trump’s campaigning on support of fossil fuel industries and his questioning of the Paris deal might create headwinds for our ongoing growth.

I’m no expert on what the President Elect might or might not do, but I am an expert on Envision’s business and how we are positioned to take advantage of the industries we target. One of the cornerstones to our strategy has been to develop solar powered products, which are not reliant upon tax or other incentives to deliver value to our customers. Because we are not the typical solar company we are not constrained by the financial models which drive the rest of the solar industry. We don’t sell electricity and we don’t compete with the utilities on kilowatt hour costs. And because our products reduce pollution and increase energy security without relying on government incentives, we are popular on both sides of the aisle.

Focusing on what we call Solar 3.0, we produce products that enable vital, highly valuable services in locations where it is either too expensive or too impactful to deliver the grid or where the requirement for electrical power is so important that grid failures like blackouts cannot be considered an option. When we compete with utilities or typical solar companies, it’s on deployability, reliability, accessibility and total cost of ownership, not on producing the cheapest kilowatt hour with the help of subsidies.

Humans are more reliant on electricity than ever and we need it everywhere – not just where the grid reaches. And when I say everywhere I’m not just addressing remote locations. The fact is that getting enough electricity to a location in a parking lot or on a street or in a rest area can be practically impossible from an economic or environmental point of view. That’s why we have created products that are rapidly deployable and totally independent of the grid. We can put highly reliable and immediately available power sources where they’re needed.

Some could argue that the adoption of electric vehicles might suffer if policies concentrate on fossil fuel extraction rather than renewables. It is true that EV charging is a big and rapidly growing part of our business, but even a small amount of research will convince you that EVs are here to stay – no matter what a barrel of oil sells for. The US, EU and Asia are all evolving rapidly towards the electrification of transportation. That’s great news for consumers who will spend less to drive a better car and it’s great news for Envision, because we will supply the infrastructure to make that possible.

We have a vibrant and growing EV charging business with both enterprise and government customers. Remember that all our government business comes from state and municipal government – not Federal. Those people with whom I’ve spoken in businesses and at the state and municipal levels of government seem to be more determined than ever to push through their sustainability plans. And because our business models are not reliant on subsidies, but rather based upon sound and thoroughly American values like innovation, self reliance and profits we are supported by the both sides of the political spectrum.

So, when I’m asked what the next four years will deliver, I answer that for us it will continue to be growth, because there is nothing political in employing the right people to deliver products that make everyone’s lives better.Desmond Wheatley, CEO of Envision Solar
