Resilience Dividend? Yes, it exists!

At the Residence of the Swiss Ambassador to the United States of America, Global Infrastructure Basel Foundation (GIB) on behalf of Rockefeller Foundation, presented its first results on a study that proves the positive impact of applying resilience and sustainability criteria in infrastructure projects.

Washington DC, April 21, 2017Over 100 decision makers from the private sector, multilateral development agencies, government bodies, and NGOs joined the cocktail reception with a subsequent Swiss Raclette dinner, to discuss how to bridge the current financing gap in infrastructure through the usage of sustainability and resilience criteria in infrastructure projects. The dialogue began with a well-rounded introduction by the Swiss Ambassador Martin Dahinden followed by discussions with representatives from The Rockefeller Foundation, the World Bank Group, Swiss Re and the Inter-American Development Bank.

The president of the board of Global Infrastructure Basel Foundation, Mr. Daniel Wiener, presented the first results of a study commissioned by the Rockefeller Foundation, New York, which aimed at proving the existence of a “Resilience Dividend”. The results of the assessment of four projects in the study showed that projects that integrate sustainability and resilience measures into their practices, obtain a positive Resilience Dividend. The dividend materializes in the form of various benefits, such as reduced losses after a disruption, but also – in times of non-disruption – in the form of environmental and social improvements.
