Social Justice = A Caring Economy
Friday, August 4, 2017 – 9:00am to 10:15am Central

A Fair, Just, and Thriving Economy is Within Our Reach.
Economic and racial inequality, domestic violence, overflowing prisons, environmental disregard, unaffordable healthcare, undereducated children, disenfranchised citizens and communities, xenophobia, homophobia: the injustices seem overwhelming.

Yet we can have a thriving economy that supports caring for ourselves, others, and nature. However, this cannot happen within our current economic models, rules, and policies. But these times of social and political turmoil offer us the opportunity to build a new economics and society based on Partnership rather than Domination.

In this interactive workshop you will:

·         Find a realistic path to an economy and society that supports your highest values.

·         Hear from the renowned researcher, author, and thought leader, Riane Eisler, how our society arrived at this place of extreme inequalities and violence.

·         Hear from Dr. Eisler and author/business owner Sharon Sund how the social justice movement and healing from racism support making this transition from Domination to Partnership.

·         Leave with strategies to incorporate this vital shift in your advocacy, activism, movement building, and in your day-to-day interactions.

Riane Eisler will be appearing via Skype.

Caring Economy & Basic Income
Thursday, August 3, 2017 – 1:00pm to 2:15pm Central
The concept of a Basic Income, especially if it were to be issued as a Guaranteed Livable Income, has much potential as an element of a post-patriarchal economic system that values contributions to society by everyone and where poverty is abolished. This workshop seeks to explore how a re-valuing of care-work can solidify the vision of a new economic and societal system, where caring for self, each other, and the planet is the primary focus.
