WHAT’S NEW AT CPINew study: Credit support pathways for rooftop solar projects in India

A new CPI instrument design case study for the U.S.-India Catalytic Solar Finance Program (USICSF) proposes the use of a Credit Guarantee Mechanism to overcome key barriers to scaling-up rooftop solar for small and medium businesses in India. One million dollars of donor grant capital invested in the facility would enable 18 MW of rooftop solar, driving India to achieve almost 50% of its rooftop solar goal.

CPI joins platform to support SDG achievement in Indonesia

CPI has joined SDG Indonesia One, an integrated, blended finance platform to fund projects that support Sustainable Development Goals in Indonesia, launched by the Ministry of Finance. Public funds raised through this platform are expected to overcome the key financing barriers to SDG-related projects. The platform, which CPI helped design, has already raised USD 2.3 billion.

The Lab launches new financial instruments for sustainable development

The Lab has launched its 2018 class of nine new investment vehicles. These instruments have the potential to collectively mobilize multiple billions of dollars in investment, and reduce emissions by an amount roughly equivalent to the 2013 carbon footprint of Paris. Selected for development from among hundreds of ideas submitted, the Lab’s investors prioritized ideas from sectors that remain critical for climate change action, including clean energy access, sustainable land use, and low-carbon transit.

Calling all sustainable investment ideas

The Lab has opened its call for proposals for innovative ideas that can unlock investment to tackle some of the most difficult climate and sustainable development challenges. Selected ideas will receive guidance, robust analysis and development by expert working groups, and access to a network of high-level public and private investors. The Lab will be hosting a webinar on November 7th, which will feature more information about the call for ideas and updates on the latest Lab progress.

GNI+ launches in Kenya

The Global NDC Implementation Partners—GNI+—has secured funding from the German International Climate Initiative to launch a new partnership to support Kenya in implementing its climate change goals. GNI+ brings together the combined expertise of AECOM, Baker McKenzie, and CPI to help selected countries develop and enhance legal, policy, financial, institutional, and governance frameworks, starting in Kenya.
