Jay OwenGreen Prosperity, Beyond GDP

It’s time to act, it’s time to join together. That’s why at the Global Climate Action Summit we’re going to get it done.”

Welcome to the August edition of the We Mean Business coalition newsletter.

As business leaders and policy makers look to showcase growing climate ambition over the coming weeks at the Global Climate Action Summit and Climate Week NYC, the wealth of corporate climate action is accelerating.

This month we hear from pioneering companies including LanzaTech, which is helping a Chinese steel mill cut emissions by turning pollution into fuel and products. And global drinks leader Diageo, which is creating energy from a distillery by-product.

Meanwhile, many more leading companies have committed to setting science-based targets this month, including industrial group Johnson Controls, Chinese tech giant Lenovo and India’s Mahindra Electric Mobility.

A new report from RE100, led by The Climate Group in partnership with CDP, shows how a growing number of companies are stepping up to re-define leadership in the renewable transition. While the Pledge for a Just Transition to Decent Jobs, led by The B Team, is helping ensure that transition ensures good jobs and decent labor standards.

We also welcome the expanded Climate Policy Tracker online tool for helping businesses navigate the complex world of climate regulation, and the launch of the Alliances for Climate Action initiative for bringing together climate coalitions for powerful impact.
