Welcome to the August edition of the We Mean Business coalition newsletter.

This month a group of leading multinational companies across a range of sectors called on the governments of the G7 countries to step up their climate policy ambition, as they highlighted the role of business in delivering climate action at speed and scale.

The call for increased ambition comes as the number of companies that have signed the pledge to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels passes 50, with a combined market cap of over $2.2 trillion. More companies are encouraged to join the growing group of climate leaders, by signing the 1.5°C pledge, in the run up to the UN Secretary General Summit in September and beyond.

In zero-carbon power, a newly updated climate scenario analysis framework released from Ceres underscores the need for the US power sector to completely decarbonize before 2050 in order to limit global warming to below 1.5°C.

And we take a look at some of the companies helping to deliver the zero-carbon transport future, both the automakers changing the cars on our roads and the companies switching their fleets to electric vehicles.
