2012 is starting off with a “bang”! HELIO’s Chairman, Hélène Connor has just been named a recipient of the 2012 Légion d’Honneur in recognition of her four decades of visionary work in promoting environmental protection, sustainable energy and participatory governance.
France’s oldest and highest distinction, the Légion d’Honneur was created by Napoleon Bonaparte in1802 and is awarded to outstanding individuals who have contributed to France and to the ideals it upholds. Past recipients include environmentalist Dr. Jane Goodall, as well as oceanographer and environmentalist Jacques Cousteau and Dr. Wangari Maathai, founder of the Green Belt Movement.

2012 commence plutôt bien. Notre présidente Hélène vient de se voir attribuer la Légion d’honneur en reconnaissance de quatre décennies de travail visionnaire pour la protection de l’environnement, les énergies viables à long terme et la gouvernance participative.
La Légion d’honneur, la plus haute distinction en France, a été créée par Napoléon Bonaparte en 1802 pour identifier des personnes qui ont contribué de façon remarquable au respect des valeurs du pays. Dans le passé cet honneur a été octroyé à l’environnementaliste Jane Goodall, de même qu’à l’océanographe écologiste Jacques Cousteau et au Dr. Wangari Maathai, fondatrice du mouvement Green Belt.
